How to read it
Hold the resistor with the gold or silver band on the right and read from the left. On a 4 band resistor the first two bands are digits, the third the multiplier and the last the tolerance: red, red, brown, gold = 22 × 10 = 220 Ω, ±5%. On a 5 band resistor the first three bands are digits. When the colors are faded, or brown and orange look alike, a multimeter on its resistance range is the surest way.
