DIY Electronics · Privacy Policy

Last updated: 18 October 2026 · Türkçe

DIY Electronics is a mobile app for following Arduino and electronics projects. This policy explains which data is processed while you use the app, why, and how you can delete it. It is a translation of the Turkish policy; if the two ever differ, the Turkish text applies.

Using the app without signing in (guest mode)

You can use the app without signing in. Your inventory, project progress, notes and saved projects are then kept only on your phone, in the app's own storage, and are not sent to the server. Only the public catalog (projects, components, sellers) is read from the server. Deleting the app deletes this data too. If you later sign in with Google, what you collected on the phone is moved to your account and handled as described in the table below. The community, badges and notifications need an account.

The one exception is a count of shopping steps: opening the shopping list, tapping a seller link, a project kit or the sponsor area, copying a discount code and similar steps are counted with nothing that says who you are. The server keeps only the day's date, the kind of step, which part, kit or seller it was about, the quantity on your list and how many times it was taken that day; no account, device, IP address or time of day is stored. So that a step you repeat within a few minutes counts once, your IP address is kept for at most 10 minutes, only in the server's memory and only as a hash, and is never written anywhere. These counts are used, as totals, in talks with sellers.

Only if you allow it. Your answer to the «Help us improve the app» question asked in the app To see which parts of the app are used and where projects are left unfinished, and improve the app

Usage statistics (Google Analytics)

After you first use the app, you are asked whether your use may be measured with Google Analytics. If you say no, no usage data is sent to Google Analytics; nothing is sent before you answer either. If you say yes, the data sent does not include your name, email address or account number; Google Analytics knows your phone only by a random identifier. Your advertising ID is not sent and the data is not used for advertising. You can change your choice at any time with the Profile → Usage statistics switch; turning it off stops sending and deletes the random identifier on your phone. Data already sent is kept for Google Analytics' retention period (at most 14 months).

The app does not collect your location, contacts, search history or similar data. Location and device details (EXIF) in photos you upload are removed before they are stored. The app does not ask for or store payment details: Google Play takes the support payment, and your card details never reach the app or us. If you delete your account, your support stays in the income records, but its link to your account is removed.

Ads

The app is free; its costs are partly covered by ads. When you finish a project and go back to the project list, a full-screen ad may be shown now and then. No ads are shown on the first project you finish, on the wiring steps or on the shopping screens. The ads are served by Google AdMob; for this, Google may process your device's advertising ID, your approximate location (from your IP address) and how you interact with the ad. Where required, you are asked for consent to personalised ads; if you do not give it, non-personalised ads are shown. You can reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's settings. How Google uses this data: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

2. Seller links and affiliates

The «Buy» buttons in the shopping list take you to third-party shops. These links may carry an affiliate tag; if a purchase is made, the app may receive a commission, and the product's price is not affected. At the moment no link carries an affiliate tag and the app receives no commission from any shop; there is no agreement with the shops either, the links only show the product's page in the shop. If this changes, this section will be updated. The prices shown are estimates; the shop's price is the one that applies. The shop you are taken to has its own privacy policy. The app records that you tapped a link (which component or project kit, which seller); it cannot see what you do in the shop.

Some sellers offer discount codes for the app. If you use one, the seller learns from the code that the order came from this app; the app only records that you copied the code. The area marked «Official hardware sponsor» promotes a company that supports the app.

3. Storing the data

Data is kept on the app's own server (a PostgreSQL database). Photos you upload and the app's other images are stored in Cloudflare's file storage service (Cloudflare R2) and served through Cloudflare's network; a photo you delete, or one that is hidden, leaves that network's cache within an hour at the latest. The token created for your session is kept only on your device, in the operating system's secure storage. So that they open without an internet connection, the latest copy of your inventory, projects, progress, saved projects, profile details and project images, and changes you made offline that have not been sent yet, are kept on your device in the app's own folder; other apps cannot reach them, and they are deleted from the device when you sign out or delete your account. Error records and «Report a problem» notes are also kept on the app's own server; they are not sent to a third-party error tracking service. Error records are deleted automatically after 30 days and «Report a problem» notes after 180 days; when you delete your account, the account number in them is removed at once. Other data is kept for as long as your account is open; notifications are deleted automatically after 90 days.

4. Sharing

Data is not sold. It is shared with third parties only in these cases:

5. Deleting your account and your data

You can close your account in the app with Profile → Delete account. This permanently deletes your inventory, progress, notes, saved projects, the projects you shared, the photos you uploaded, your "I built it too" photos, badges, comments, likes, votes, notifications and device notification tokens. It cannot be undone and takes effect without a further confirmation. You can also ask for deletion by writing to the email address below. Deleted data also leaves the server's encrypted nightly backups within 14 days at the latest. Steps and details: Deleting your account.

6. Children

The app is not meant for users under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from this age group.

7. Your rights

Under Turkey's Personal Data Protection Law No. 6698 (KVKK), you have the right to access, correct and delete your data and to object to its processing. You can write to the address below for these requests.

8. Changes

If this policy changes, the «last updated» date on this page is renewed; for important changes you are told in the app.
