How to read it

The code is in picofarads (pF). The first two digits are the value and the third is how many zeros follow: 104 = 10 and four zeros = 100,000 pF = 100 nF = 0.1 µF. One or two digits are picofarads as they are: 22 = 22 pF. A third digit of 9 means ×0.1 and 8 means ×0.01: 479 = 4.7 pF. In codes like 4n7 the letter is both the unit and the decimal point: 4n7 = 4.7 nF. A letter after the code is the tolerance (J = ±5%, K = ±10%). A separate code like 2A or 1H is not the value but the voltage it withstands. The 100 nF marked 104 is the capacitor Arduino projects most often put next to a chip's supply pin to filter out noise.
